Derry, ufficialmente Londonderry, è la seconda città più grande dell'Irlanda del Nord e la quarta città più grande dell'isola d'Irlanda. Il nome Derry è un'anglilicizzazione dell'antico nome irlandese Daire (irlandese moderno: Doire [ˈd̪ɣɛɾjə]) che significa "robledal". Nel 1613, re Giacomo I conferì alla città una Carta Reale e ottenne il prefisso "Londra" per riflettere il finanziamento della sua costruzione da parte delle corporazioni di Londra. Mentre la città è più comunemente conosciuta colloquialmente come Derry, Londonderry è anche comunemente usato e rimane il nome legale. L'antica città murata si trova sulla riva occidentale del fiume Foyle, che si estende su due ponti stradali e una passerella. La città ora copre entrambe le rive (Cityside a ovest e Waterside ad est). Nel censimento del 2001 la popolazione era di 83.652 abitanti, mentre l'area urbana di Derry aveva una popolazione di 90.736 abitanti. Il distretto gestito da Derry City e Strabane District Council contiene il porto di Londonderry e l'aeroporto della città di Derry.
