Cork Irlanda

Cork è la seconda città dell'Irlanda, ma per alcuni è la città gaelica numero uno del paese e la vera capitale dell'Irlanda. Il sughero è ospitale, cosmopolita ed energico. Il fiume Lee scorre attraverso la città e si unisce a uno dei porti naturali più grandi del mondo, e ci vogliono circa 29 ponti per collegare le sue caratteristiche più distintive. Il sughero è un importante centro culturale e artistico che ospita importanti festival cinematografici, jazz e di poesie come il Festival di mezza estate di Cork. Cork è stata nominata Capitale europea della cultura nel 2005. A sud del fiume Lee, a dominare il resto della città si trova la Cattedrale di St Finbarr, un lussureggiante edificio in pietra calcarea dotato di tre imponenti guglie dedicate al fondatore e patrono della città. Visita la chiesa di Sant'Anna nel quartiere di Shandon per la vista dalla torre e dalle campane di 200 anni. Il quartiere di Shandon ha conservato la sua autenticità ed è pieno di stradine e negozi colorati. St Patrick's Street, un canale coperto, è l'arteria principale della città ed è nota per l'architettura dei suoi edifici. Tra St Patrick's Street e Grand Parade sorge The English Market, un mercato coperto di frutta e verdura, recentemente restaurato, che opera dal 1610, anche se l'attuale edificio risale al 1786. Ribelle e nazionalista, Cork odora di brezza marina e è riuscita a conserva la sua autenticità. La vivacità oceanica e una spensierata gioia di vivere sono le caratteristiche più care di Cork.
