Galway Irlande

Porte d'entrée du Connemara, Galway est une ville portuaire charmante et animée située sur la côte ouest de l'Irlande. Au 14ème siècle, la ville était un important lieu de commerce sous la domination anglo-normande. Les échanges importants avec l’Espagne ont donné à Galway une saveur espagnole. Pourtant, malgré toute son histoire d'influence internationale, Galway reste plus irlandais que les autres villes de l'ouest. Connue comme la "ville des tribus", Galway regorge de culture irlandaise riche et de signification historique. La ville serpente entre rivière et mer, pleine de vieilles maisons de marchands, d'étranges fenêtres en plomb au-dessus de portes en pierre et de vieux murs de pierre soulignent les devantures de magasins modernes. Eyre Square est le centre névralgique de la ville, avec ses monuments éparpillés de patriotes et d'innombrables passants intéressants. Shop Street, la rue principale, regorge toujours de musique de rue et d’interprètes. Shop Street passe également devant le château de Lynches, un élégant manoir en pierre datant du début du XVIe siècle. Remontez les rives de la rivière Corrib en direction du pont Salmon Weir. Revenez dans les rues étroites jusqu’à l’Arche Espagnole, la seule porte qui reste de la vieille ville marchande et un vestige de l’époque où le commerce espagnol était florissant et où le sherry était transporté dans d’énormes carracks de marchands. Aujourd'hui, Galway est une ville universitaire qui fourmille d'expositions et de festivals en continu. Des foules discutent dans des pubs au bord de la rivière et écoutent de la musique en direct. C'est la véritable essence de Galway.
