Galway Irlanda

Porta del Connemara, Galway è un'affascinante e vivace città portuale, situata sulla costa occidentale dell'Irlanda. Durante il XIV secolo la città fu un importante centro commerciale sotto il dominio anglo-normanno. L'ampio commercio con la Spagna ha portato al sapore spagnolo di alcuni resti architettonici a Galway. Eppure, nonostante tutta la sua storia di influenza internazionale, Galway rimane più irlandese di altre città occidentali. Conosciuta come la "città delle tribù", Galway è ricca di cultura irlandese e di significato storico. La città si snoda tra fiume e mare, piena di antiche case mercantili, strane finestre piombate sopra porte di pietra e antichi muri di pietra che fanno da cornice alle moderne vetrine dei negozi. Eyre Square è il punto focale della città, con monumenti sparsi a patrioti e innumerevoli passanti interessanti. Shop Street, la via principale, è sempre animata da musica di strada e artisti. Shop Street ti porta anche oltre il castello di Lynches, un elegante palazzo in pietra risalente all'inizio del XVI secolo. Risalire le rive del fiume Corrib verso Salmon Weir Bridge. Torna indietro attraverso le stradine fino all'Arco spagnolo, l'unica porta sopravvissuta all'antica città commerciale e un residuo dei giorni in cui fioriva il commercio spagnolo e lo sherry veniva portato in enormi carcasse di mercanti attraverso questo arco. Oggi Galway è una città universitaria sempre animata da continue mostre e festival. La folla chiacchiera nei pub lungo il fiume, ascoltando musica dal vivo. Questa è la vera essenza di Galway.
